ROC Launches

We launch the second Saturday of each month at Lucerne Dry Lake in California (see schedule to the left). We try to begin by 8 AM, and launch until 2-4 PM.

ROC supplies launch facilities and power for the launchers. We have launch rods for 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" launch lugs; rail launchers are also available. ROC supplies toilet facilities - please help us keep them clean - doo doo and pee pee and tee pee ONLY! We usually have at least two vendors at each launch, but if you want to be sure of having what you need, bring your own motors and other supplies.

If you flying and are not a ROC member, there is a $10 per day launch fee, payable on site. Be sure to read the Flyers Page prior to attending.

If you are not flying, being a spectator is free. Please read the Spectators Page prior to attending.

If you are bringing your youth group out for a launch, please check our Youth Group Page for more details.

Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to volunteer for setup, cleanup, and for the various range duty tasks. It's fun, you will learn a lot, and you will meet lots of other flyers!

If a launch is rained out (yes, it happens!), we may attempt to reschedule. Check this website for updates!

Club meetings are at the launch, and all club business is conducted at the launch.

Important Waiver and Motor Info!

New for 2008! All ROC launches have an altitude waiver in effect, which is the altitude limit we are allowed by the FAA. Our standard waiver is now 11,000 MSL (feet above mean sea level), or approximately 8,000 feet AGL (above ground level). We are also able to request higher altitude windows during daylight hours of up to 19,000 MSL, or approximately 16,000 feet AGL. If you need a window, inform the RSO when you check in.

We operate in strict compliance with all BATF and California State Fire Marshall regulations. Therefore, the maximum size motor you may fly is a "G" without a California permit. If you have a permit, or if a permit holder is present (and someone always is), you may fly any motor legal in California (currently up to at least "M"), as long as the altitude waiver is not exceeded.
